Home is where the flowers are

Disclosure – This post is sponsored by Bear’s Blooms. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

Did you know – fresh blooms stimulate dopamine, oxytocin and serotonin in our brains, aka the feel-good chemicals. Yes, really! Think about it, don’t you feel a rush of happiness whenever you purchase flowers, receive flowers, assemble flowers? I certainly do! I like to treat myself to fresh flowers at least twice per month as part of my self-care/mental health routine.

We all know about those food subscription boxes, and how everyone loves them (including me); How would you feel if that existed for flowers? A ‘meal kit’ for flowers. Well, I am here to tell you that it exists! A few months ago, I was doing some online research, and I discovered Bear’s Blooms, a sustainable business (locally sourced, purchased to order, recyclable packaging) available in Vancouver and Calgary. Unlike most subscription services, you can manage all orders, frequency and preferences through their site.

The very first time I tried Bear’s Blooms, I was gifted for my birthday in September, and it was by far one of my favourite variety of flowers that I have ever received. I think the most exciting and unique part about this brand is that you literally get to assemble the flowers however you want – think of it as a form of art!

As soon as you open the box, you can smell the fresh cut buds. The flowers bloom within 24-48 hours of delivery, which means that they stay fresh longer. With proper care (aka changing the water & trimming the stems), my Bear’s Blooms are always good for 2-3 weeks! The box that the flowers come in has all the instructions on how to assemble your bouquet and even comes with a card that indicates the names of the flowers/greens, arrangement recommendations, and care tips. I just turn on some tunes, get in the zone, and start playing around with my new blooms. It’s such a calming activity for me and when I am happy with my arrangement(s) I get this feeling of satisfaction that I don’t normally get when I purchase flowers at a store.

I didn’t even know that what I am about to tell you is a thing, but there were studies done showing that flower arranging can actually make us feel less stressed out as it can lower our blood pressure and heart rate. Aside from these wonderful stats, having beautiful blooms around also helps lift feelings of depression and anxiety and increases productivity. This also stems back to the chemicals released from our brain that I mentioned earlier. Whatever helps support mental health – I am here for it!

PS – I always receive so much product in one box that I end up putting them into 2 vases, turning them into two beautiful bouquets.

I hope that I have inspired you to try something different when it comes to flowers. If you have a friend, family member, colleague that you know could use some cheering up, or has a birthday coming up, this is definitely a unique gift that will make them smile from ear to ear like I did. Okay, maybe not ear to ear literally, but guys, I’m telling you this box of blooms makes me so happy!

Here is a catalogue of bouquets if you are interested to see previous bouquet creations. For current creations, you can check out their Instagram feed!
